Do you know what your TexFlex balance is?
March 7, 2018
Are you keeping an eye on your health and dependent care flexible spending account(s)? As a TexFlex participant, you have been setting aside money each month, pre-tax, to help pay these expenses. It’s so easy to save that you may forget you have that money tucked away!
If you want to see just how much you’ve set aside—and how much you’ve spent—log into your TexFlex account. (If this is your first time accessing TexFlex’s Spending Account Online Services, you will need to register first.) Click on the account you’re interested in reviewing. We’re about half way through the plan year, so it may be a good time for you to think about how you will use your TexFlex funds for the rest of the plan year. Keep in mind that you have to incur all the expenses for your dependent care account by November 15, 2018 (the end of the two-and-a-half month grace period), but for the health care account, you can carry over $500 when the plan year ends. See the TexFlex FAQs for more information.
You can use your TexFlex debit card to pay for qualified health expenses (you cannot use your card for dependent care expenses), but be sure to keep your receipts. You may be asked to confirm a charge on your card (see How to validate your TexFlex card swipe).
Remember, too, that you don’t have to be at your computer to view or make changes to your TexFlex account. You can use your smart phone.
