ERS adopts rule amendments at its December Board meeting

January 8, 2020
The November issue of News About Your Benefits noted that the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) Board of Trustees would consider rule §73.47 at its December meeting.

On December 10, the Board adopted rule amendments with no changes to the proposed text:     gavel
  • Chapter 73: Adopted new rule §73.47 permits designated beneficiaries of ERS members and retirees to assign certain death benefits to licensed funeral directors or funeral establishments. This means that ERS can send all or part of eligible lump-sum benefits directly to a licensed funeral director or licensed funeral establishment to pay for funeral costs, making it easier and quicker to pay for these services. ERS proposed these changes in response to the passage of HB 3522 by the 86th Texas Legislature.
Rules, statutes and other regulations relating to ERS are posted on our Statutes and Rules webpage. Proposed amendments to ERS rules are published throughout the year in the Texas Register. (Approved rules and amendments are posted in the Texas Register after they have been adopted.)
