: Pre-tax payments for health insurance premiums and to TexFlex flexible spending accounts (FSAs) resulted in estimated savings of $132 million in federal taxes for participants.
Additional statistics of interest from Plan Year 2019:
- “Changing the Script”—an initiative launched by ERS with health plan administrators and health industry experts to fight opioid abuse—has had an immediate impact: HealthSelectSM reports that in one year, the number of participants using long-acting opioids declined 70%.
- Use of medical virtual visits increased by more than 67%. The HealthSelect plans also introduced mental health virtual visits to support participants’ well-being.
- Health plans’ out-of-pocket costs held steady and premiums didn't increase in most health plans—without a reduction in high-quality benefits.
- ERS' Customer Benefits team responded to about 441,000 phone calls and 25,000 emails from members and their families.
