The eyes are an important, but often overlooked, part of overall health. According to Healthy People 2020
, some vision impairments are preventable—but you have to get regular eye exams to detect and prevent vision problems.
A visit to an eye care professional for a comprehensive dilated eye exam can help detect:
- Diabetic retinopathy,
- Cataracts and
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
These common vision problems often have no early warning signs. If they are detected early enough, however, an eye care professional can prescribe corrective eyewear and medicine, or recommend surgery, to minimize vision loss.
All Texas Employee Group Benefits Program (GBP) health plans cover diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and injuries. Some health plans cover an annual vision exam and/or offer discounts on glasses or contacts. Check your health plan’s Master Benefit Plan Document (MBPD)
or call your health plan for details.
State of Texas Vision
also covers an annual exam. Follow this link
