Summer Enrollment elections began Sept. 1. You’ll see how the changes affect your Oct. 1 paycheck.

What are some next steps?

Confirm your enrollments

If you made changes during Summer Enrollment, you got an email or letter from us confirming your selections. When you get your Oct. 1 pay stub, check to make sure there are deductions for the coverage you signed up for, and no deductions for any coverage you dropped.

If there is a conflict, first talk with your benefits coordinator or human resources office. They can confirm if the elections you made are reflected accurately.

Previously enrolled in Optional Term Life Insurance and/or TIPP disability insurance, but now you’re making more money? Did you have a “special” birthday in the last year?

Plan Year 2025 premiums and coverage under Optional Term Life Insurance and Texas Income Protection Plan (TIPP) disability insurance are based on your salary as of Sept. 1, 2024. So, if you’re enrolled in either of these plans and got a raise in the past year—including the 5% increase many state agency employees got at the start of this fiscal year—your premiums went up, even if you didn’t change your coverage. Your coverage also increased to reflect your new PY25 salary.

Similarly, your Optional Term Life Insurance premium for the plan year is based on your age on Sept. 1. If you’re at least 30 years old and were an age that ends in a 0 or 5 on Sept. 1, your Optional Term Life Insurance premium probably had an age-based increase. See page 4 of the Plan Year 2025 premium rate sheet for more information. Age-based premiums are standard practice in the life insurance industry.

Questions about coverage and care? Contact plan administrators

If you want to know how to choose a primary care provider or use dental or vision benefits, go to the plan’s website. The plan websites and customer service contacts are your best resource for plan and coverage information.

If you applied for life and disability insurance

If you initiated evidence of insurability (EOI) for Optional Term Life insurance, Dependent Term Life Insurance or TIPP short-term or long-term disability coverage, you should soon get the results of your EOI application(s), if you haven’t already. You can contact the plan administrator or EOI underwriter for more information.

  • Optional and Dependent Term Life Insurance: Securian toll-free at (877) 494-1716 (TTY: 711), Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT.
  • Texas Income Protection Plan (TIPP) Customer Care: Reed Group toll-free at (855) 604-6230 (TDD: 711), Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. CT. For more information about TIPP, go to texasincomeprotectionplan.com.

The EOI underwriter will review your EOI application and let you know if you were approved or denied for coverage. If you’re approved, your coverage will automatically begin and premiums will be deducted from your paycheck.
