Helpful Tips and Your HR contact

Let’s Get Started

Thank you for your interest in working at ERS. We recommend that you review the helpful tips below to assist you with completing the application process.

Fill in the Application

You may attach a resume as supplementary information.  Resumes are not accepted in lieu of a completed application. Writing "see resume" in the "Summary of Experience" box on the application form will invalidate your application.

Please note: Do not include photographs or information pertaining to marital status, children, race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age or disability.

Attach the Required Documents

The Job Vacancy Notice (JVN) will include instructions about additional information that may be required to be submitted with your application.

Please note: Failure to submit the required attachments with your application will invalidate your application.

  • Typing and/or Data Entry Tests.
  • All typing/data entry tests will be administered by the ERS Human Resources office. (These tests are given only to the applicants selected for interview for positions requiring a minimum typing/data entry speed.)
  • College Transcripts.
  • If the JVN requests college credits to meet either a minimum or a preferred qualification, a photocopy of your official college transcript(s) will be required. In some cases, we may request a copy of your transcript prior to the moving forward in the interview process.

Submit your application by the Closing Date

Your application and all required attachments must be received by ERS by 5:00 p.m. CST on the closing date indicated on the Job Vacancy Notice (i.e., delivered to the Human Resources Office, faxed, or date-stamped by the ERS mailroom).

If the position is posted as "open until filled”, it is recommended that you submit your application to Human Resources as soon as possible.

What’s My Status?

It’s okay to be curious about the status. For information on the status of your application or the selection process email employment@ers.texas.gov

Only applicants who are interviewed will be notified when a vacancy is filled.

Criminal History Checks

ERS will conduct criminal history checks through the Texas Department of Public Safety on primary and secondary candidates for a position. In some cases, the agency will conduct fingerprint checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Proof of Selective Service Registration Required

If you are a male 18 to 25 years of age, an offer of employment is contingent upon you presenting proof when you report for your first day of employment that you are registered with the selective service system or that you are exempt from registration. Online registration and proof of registration is available on the Selective Service System's website.

Submit Veteran's Preference

Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) adheres to the Texas Veteran's Preference Act.

If you qualify for a veteran's preference, complete the Veteran's Preference Form and submit it with supporting documentation to the ERS Human Resources Office.
