Read Jason’s story to find out how HealthSelect participants use ERS and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) resources to select the medical plan that best meets their needs.

Jason’s Journey

Jason has worked for a Texas state agency for years and has always kept his HealthSelect of Texas medical plan. Even after getting married and adopting a child, he added his family to coverage but never thought to compare plans.

This year, Jason and his spouse are looking for ways to grow their savings, so he wants to make sure he is getting the coverage his family needs, at a price that is right for their situation. He attends a Summer Enrollment fair where he picks up the latest benefits and plan comparison brochures. He talks to the BCBSTX representative and learns about the Plan Decision Tool on the HealthSelect website.

When Jason gets home, he visits the website and launches the Plan Decision Tool. By working through the tool, Jason learns that the Consumer Directed HealthSelect plan may be a better option for his family. They have enough savings to cover the deductible, and their use of health care and prescriptions is moderate. He is pleased to know that the state, as his employer, will deposit money into his health savings account, and he plans to match their contribution so that he can build up his account.

After one last review of the details with his spouse, Jason completes his 2023 Summer Enrollment selection.
